This legislation changes the jurisdiction of campus police for all counties under 400,000.  Under current law, the jurisdiction for campus police only includes the grounds and buildings owned or occupied by the college or university.  HB 726 would expand their jurisdiction to any public or private property within 500 yards of any grounds or buildings owned by the college or university, as well as one-quarter mile of any public street or public sidewalk connecting the buildings of the educational facility.
